The course is intended to equip students with the different methods used to assess the nutrition situation of an emergency affected population and the different types responses for nutrition emergencies. It starts by defining what an emergency is in general and what a nutrition emergency is in particular. The different classification systems of a nutrition emergency are addressed and the different types of responses that are needed for a given level of emergency are also well explained. The different humanitarian actors which involve during emergency, their specific roles and coordination systems as well as the principles & standards that these actors should follow during emergency response is also well addressed in the course.
