This course is designed mainly to introduce students to the practical aspects of Yarn Manufacturing theory course from roving frame to winding. Thus this course emphasizes how spinning is carried out in short-staple spinning mills. It thoroughly deals with cotton spinning in roving and ring frames. It is generally accepted that Ethiopian textile mills produce yarn of low quality. Thus, the practical visit to and observation of the operation of Bahir Dar Textile Share Company gives an insight to the causes and sources of defects and wastes in yarn production processes. Consequently, the course deals with different methods to tackle those yarn quality problems.

Different sections of roving frame, ring frame and, to some extent, winding machine will be studied. In addition, speed, draft and production calculations will be performed based on actual measurement and gearing diagrams. Finally, the course underlines the value of high and quality production in the competitive market.
