Dear Student,

Welcome to the course site. The site provides you with 16 sessions. Each session is organized into three sets of activities. The first set consists of activities you are expected to do before coming to the class. You are expected to read the materials provided, attend the multimedia resources linked and do study questions before coming to the class. These activities will help you come prepared for the class. 

The second set of sessions "during class" provides a PPT for the face-to-face discussion. During the class hours, much of the time will be dedicated for discussion and reflection on the topics of the lesson. This will help you learn more .and achieve the lesson objects. Of course, the productivity of the lesson will depend on your engagement in the before session activities. Those who come prepared will benefit most.    

The third set of sessions, "after session," deals with the activities provided in the form of assignments, exercises and quiz. These activities will help extend classroom learning to applications in the world of work or life, assess progress toward the lesson objectives and providers feedback to your progress.

Your engagement in the lesson contents will be facilitated by the forum and chat facilities of the course site. Everything required to study the course is just a click away. This helps you to focus and devote your time to your learning rather than searching for resources.

The course instructional design and technology is designed to help students understand instructional design and apply the design, production, and selection of instructional media resources for student learning purposes. Contents included are the basics of instructional design,the role of media (tecnology) in the instructional process, instructional media resources; how touse computer technologies in delivering lessons; how to use broadcast mediaincluding lasma and how to use ICT to promote independent learning.

By the end of the Course time students will be able to:

  • Explain the role of media resources in the instructional process
  • Design, produce and use different media resources for student learning purposes
  • Explain the strength and limitations of media resources in helping teachers’ present content for students learning.
  • Use computer technology in delivering lessons
  • Use broadcast media, including plasma, for student learning purposes.
  • Use ICT to promote independent student learning
  • Appreciate/show interest in making use of instructional technology

 Course Requirements

Learners must attend all the whole class discussion sessions, small group-work sessions, and for peer teaching of their own as well as their group mates.  In addition, each student must have evidences in his/her portfolio about at least 10 lesson plans with comments, reflection pages and revised work (in case of recommended revision by instructor or peer).  Attached to each lesson plan there must also be an evidence supporting decisions especially about learners difficulty in the topics considered in the lesson plans and appropriate teaching strategies.  IT-based as will as other teaching aids designed must also be evidenced in portfolio with instructor’s comment and evaluation.  Each learner must at least conduct three lesson deliveries (may be two peer teachings and one actual teaching based on lesson plans developed in the course schedule). For ―pass  in this course the student must at least score 60% in the grand total score.
